The Case for Marriage Tax Allowances in a Cohabitation Culture | Jade Payne
“It is irresponsible for politicians to pretend that it’s fine for people to be traumatised, thrust into poverty and abuse. Children who experience family breakdown are worse off by almost every metric. Marriage benefits everyone; the couple, their children, and wider society.”
Social distancing: how to prevent insurgence | Joseph Robertson
When we look at resistances to a Draconian form of government, either intellectual or violent, necessary or unjustified, we see a trend. From the Cristeros in Mexico, to the Bolsheviks in Russia, to the pacifist resistance against Lukashenko in Belarus, all those groups had or have one thing in common. They all formed in groups. They were physically in the room at the same time as each other - they thought together, fought together and where necessary died together. So in hindsight, not only is social distancing a commendable tactic for those wishing to hone in on ‘Covid separatists’ but imperative to prevent the ‘spread of misinformation’ (read anti-narrative thought).
The conservative case for integrating British Muslims | Dan Mikhaylov
Conservatives have often abstained from this discussion, as carrying out this integration implies pragmatism and compromise, which might not necessarily resonate with their audiences to the extent that would justify them. The ill-founded custom of political teetotalism and our politicos’ predisposition to conniving at domestic radicalism and profuse integrational nihilism, observed in many Muslim communities in Britain, is turning many young Britons towards the wrong sort of orthodoxy – one that renounces patriotism and calls for violent action against the West. From this premise, our role in this brewing crisis is crystal clear: we must provide these disenchanted youths with a socially conservative alternative, in which they can strike a balance between their British and Muslim identities.
Compulsory masks - for the common good or an impractical policy? | Sam Hall
A very convincing argument can be made that we should instead be focusing on regular hand washing and proper social-distancing and not giving the police more excuses to infringe upon individual freedoms. Only time will tell if this will be effective, or draconian laziness from our legislators.
COVID-19: the need for community and breaking free from the buffered self | Ojel L. Rodriguez Burgos
The UK government’s refusal to timely adopt more stricter measures to combat the virus also makes it incumbent on all of us and our communities to protect ourselves. Taking the time to talk to an older person, helping a stranger, volunteering in the Church or an organization could look trivial to the action needed to deal with the crisis- but a thousand acts of random kindness… can be of enormous benefit to the whole of society.
